PAOLO DY is a freelance film director & cinematographer based in Manila, Philippines. He has directed numerous commercials for Procter & Gamble, Colgate-Palmolive, Sun Cellular, Asia Brewery, SC Johnson, Shakey’s Pizza, Mister Donut, and Kenny Rogers Roasters, among others.

Paolo is a graduate of the Rockport International Film Workshops in Rockport, Maine, and the New York Master Lighting Workshops of the International Cinematographers Guild, studying under members of the prestigious American Society of Cinematographers (ASC), including Steve Fierberg, Jacek Laskus, Fred Elmes, Freddie Murphy, Declan Quinn, and Barry Markowitz.

In addition, Paolo trained for a number of years under renowned Filipino cinematographer Boy Yñiguez, and he also served as a delegate to the Berlinale Talent Campus program of the 2006 Berlin International Film Festival in Germany.

His directorial work for Ayala Corporation has won yearly consecutive Anvil Awards, Gold Quill Awards of Excellence and finalist citations at the New York Festivals. In January 2004, Paolo won First Place on MTV Asia’s THE PITCH screenwriting competition in Singapore, with his screenplay ‘The Oracle.’

Paolo’s first short film ‘MIKO’ won First Place in the Bogen Imaging Short Film Competition in New York, while his second short film ‘QWERTY’ garnered over 60,000 views and a consistent 5-star rating in the online segment of Steven Spielberg‘s On The Lot film competition. Both films have been screened at the Cinemanila International Film Festival. ‘QWERTY’ was a finalist in Spike Lee's Babelgum Online Film Festival, and it also screened at the 2008 Asian Hot Shots Festival in Berlin.

In addition to giving workshops on directing and cinematography, Paolo continues to write for Student Filmmakers Magazine in New York.
